Cartoons

Cartoon to brighten a stormy day, yes, another rainy day here in Brookings. The fog is dense, the wind is up and the weeds are growing, all is right in my world. I hope you are in a mood to enjoy a cartoon or two this morning. Isn't that one about Arizona passing a law that"makes it a crime to be an illegal immigrant" great . . . dah! Wonder what part of 'illegal" is not understood. Have you noticed that our newspapers have carried very little about the speech the Mexican president gave, or for that matter the lack of support by our own president? At least the cartoonists have come up with some statements which are loud and clear. I got a big kick out of the cartoons about computers in our lives. With all of the electronic gadgets our life style is changing and I wonder what new and innovative communications tools are coming down the pike for our grandchildren and their children. A new age, what will it hold? What will our world be like one hundred years from now? Looking back we see unbelievable changes and life is a lot easier for the housekeeper with all the electric gadgets like washing machines, dish washers and the like . . . but is it? Oh the drudgery is gone, but the camaraderie is missing. What fun it was to stick your hands in hot soapy water and wash dishes and have your children help with the drying and putting the dishes away. What fun it was to hang your sheets and clothing out in the fresh sunshine, or even on a cold winter's day when you brought in a very stiff laundry to iron dry. The sense of purpose was there along with the laughter and the singing that filled the rafters of your home. Oh don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the changes as it has given me more time to write, to read, to enjoy less drudgery, but when are they going to have electronic dusters and self vacuums so I can sit in my chair and watch the dust kitties fly? No matter what life goes on changes and all . . .
So today look around and see what kind of changes have taken place in your life. I hope, for your sake, they are all good ones and that you are finding more time for the luxury of sitting out in the sunshine with a good book probably on one of the new gadgets that allows you to read a book from a very small 'box'. What is that saying? "Whatever turns you on . . ." Make good use of the changes in your life and make today a charter day, a beginning, a learning experience and don't use that cell phone when you are out driving . . ."yes mother!" Hugs to all.
