Hey, Remember these?

Daughter Pat took this picture of her brother John waiting patiently for the train to take them back to Anchorage from Denali. I cannot figure out why the background is tilted. Strange.
Burma Shave Signs. There are still some on the highways and byways as we used to pass some on the way through Jack's Valley to Reno. The attachment I received yesterday from a friend had at least a dozen of them. Here are a few to make you chuckle . . . Don't stick your elbow out so far; it may go home in another car./ Don't lose your head to gain a minute, you need your head, your brains are in it./ Brother speeder, let's rehearse, all together, Good morning, nurse./ Around the curve, lickety-split, beautiful car, wasn't it? They all ended with Burma Shave. They were all fun to read and a reminder to drive safely as another read, Both hands on the wheel, eyes on the road, that's the skillful, driver's code. Burma Shave. It wouldn't hurt one bit to have more of these signs posted today with loud and clear jingles about using cell phones and other gadgets while driving.
The Memorial holiday is over but not the thoughts of the thousands of our men and women still over seas. A few lucky ones did come home and a u-tube movie showed them surprising their children in their schools and on the ball fields. Yes, a box of kleenex comes in handy as the tears flow and you share in the joy of their reunions. There was one of a dog greeting his master that was hilarious as the dog almost turned itself inside out in its excitement of seeing the one person it gave its heart to. What a sight to see.
And now we turn the calendar page and we look at the month of June coming up. Summer is coming slowly to Oregon as the misty rains continue to fall. The forecasters tell us to be prepared for another week of rain . . . 'um . . . I may have a new design in my little back yard as that patch of grass has yet to be mowed and I know it grew another inch yesterday. Maybe if it gets tall enough I can encircle it with a ribbon and pretend it is a tree. Snakes and snails, birds and colonies of ants are enjoying themselves as no gardening is getting done. As my cartoon friend, Maxine, says on today's calendar page, "why watch the weather channel? I mean, you're inside watching TV! What do you care what it's like outside?" . . . I care, I care . . . I would like a lot of sunshine so I can complain how hot it is outside, absorb some vitamin D and smile while I spray a little of that bug juice on those pesky ants who think they are entitled to a life inside.
So today the start of a brand new month with summer weather promised and vacation time nears, smile and know that you are one day closer to having time off to enjoy a little rest and relaxation in a spot you can call your own. Make today a memory day, do something extra nice for YOU. Hugs to all.
